How school forget required course for seniors
GOTHENBURG, Sweden, May 28 (UPI) -- Seniors at a Swedish high school said they were shocked to discover days before graduation they must complete a course the school apparently forgot to offer. The students at Aniaragymnasiet high school in Gothenburg
said they were outraged to be told only four days before this week's scheduled graduation ceremony that the school had neglected to teach them a required course on religion, The Local.se reported Tuesday. "We're supposed to graduate in four days and I'm meant to complete a course that is actually supposed to last the whole year. That's impossible," student Patricia Kjellby said. Christel Berver, the school's principal, said the problem came from a misinterpretation of the country's required curriculum.When you read the law, it can be interpreted that you can switch religion with social science," Berver said. However, officials recently discovered that is not the case and the students must either now complete the course's requirements before graduation or accept a failing grade for the class and make it up in the fall.

Anti-drinking ad shows youth vomiting up his girlfriend
MADRID, May 28 (UPI) -- A Spanish anti-drug group has created a TV commercial featuring a man vomiting up his girlfriend's body to send a message about the dangers of alcohol abuse. The Foundation Against Drug Addiction commercial features a young man vomiting with his girlfriend's body coming out of his mouth to help make a point about alcohol abuse, The Local.es reported Tuesday. "Every time you get drunk, you push away the people that matter to you, like your girlfriend," the narrator of the TV spot says. Ignacio Gonzalez, head of the foundation, said the problem of alcohol abuse among the country's young people is "very serious" and "more disgusting" than the images in the video. "Science fiction cinematography is something young people recognize instantly," Gonzalez said of the commercial.

A worker sidelined by body odour
MONTREAL - A municipal gardener is suing the city of Montreal for $90,000 after he was sidelined by complaints about his body odour. Mustapha Benmammar, 72, admits he never wears deodorant but he denies he has a hygiene problem. "I do not stink," he told QMI Agency in an interview from his home. He has taken his case all the way to the Supreme Court, which refused in 2011 to hear him. He says he has since suffered insomnia and stress and he wants compensation for alleged attacks to his honour, dignity and reputation.

Girl spotted sitting in a DOG CAGE in the back of a pickup truck
A young girl sits in a DOG CAGE in the back of a pickup truck. Police were alerted by stunned motorists in western Pennsylvaniam on Monday night. The girl, aged 10, was later found unharmed. Her mother, 29-year-old Abbey Carlson, and stepfather, Thomas Fishinger, 30, are now facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Fishinger told police they had been driving home from his mother's house. Police said they told them the girl had said she wanted to be with the dog.

Miss Universe Canada crowns wrong contestant
TORONTO -- Denise Garrido's reign as Miss Universe Canada was a short one. The Bradford, Ont., native was crowned the winner out of 57 contestants Saturday night, but about 24 hours later, organizers realized a whopper of a mistake and she was dethroned.
As it turns out, Garrido was actually a runner-up -- named the winner over Calgary's Riza Santos due to an mathematical error. "During the validation of the computerized scoring results (which occurs the following day), a typo was discovered in the top five entries, which significantly impacted the final results of the competition," pageant director Denis Davila said in a release. "This is the first instance of this type of error in the 11 years that Beauties of Canada (BOC) has produced the Miss Universe Canada (MUC) pageant. "This is an unfortunate circumstance where a human error was made and in such a situation, as difficult as it is, it is only right to correct the error.
