Top-4 Restaurant offers African lion tacos
TAMPA, Fla., May 10 (UPI) -- A Florida restaurant known for its unusual tacos is raising eyebrows by offering a taco featuring African lion meat for $35. Taco Fusion in Tampa, Fla., which previously gained attention for tacos filled with beaver and otter meat, has raised controversy by using African lion for its latest menu item, WFTS-TV, Tampa, reported Friday. Restaurant manager Brad Barnett said the lion meat comes from a vendor who raises the animals specifically as a food source. Some customers gave the lion tacos good reviews. "I thought the lion was good," customer Lee Weiner said. "It didn't taste too gamey to me, similar to steak." However, others said they don't think the eatery should be serving protected species. "I really don't like that at all," McKenzie Bremer said. Barnett said the restaurant has gotten several complaints and some threats over social media. "We have people who just sit on their couch and just want to go online and say things, be hurtful, make threats," Barnett said. "If you don't like it, don't eat it."
