Top 5-Bats take over woman's apartment-Unlucky

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, May 11 (UPI) -- A woman living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, says her apartment has been taken over by bats and that "it's
terrifying."Christina Abbott told CBC News Friday that the first bat showed up "around April 27" and that there were more shortly thereafter. "I left my apartment for a week and had one more flying around the living room," she said. "And just since this past Monday there's been another 12." "It's terrifying," Abbott said. "The worst one was through the middle of the night, I have a dog and he was sleeping in bed with me and all of a sudden, I thought I felt something...And at the same time I heard a thud and about two or three feet from my bed, there was a bat sprawled out on the ground. ... Just thinking about having been sleeping with a bat in my bed is traumatizing." Abbott said she has been treated for rabies as a precaution. The company that manages Abbott's apartment building, Mainstreet Equity Corp., hasn't been much help with the bat problem, she said, and has since given her notice that her rental agreement was being canceled due to a "relationship breakdown."

Top 4-Wow- Bus riders can reclaim lost weed

City bus drivers in Seattle are under orders to handle small amounts of marijuana left behind by passengers as normal lost-and-found items that can be recovered by their rightful owners, now that pot is legal under state law, a transit official said on Friday.
“We collect a lot of things on Metro Transit buses, from umbrellas to lunch sacks to briefcases,” said Jeff Switzer, a spokesman for the King County Department of Transportation, Metro Transit Division, which serves Seattle and surrounding suburbs. “This is one more thing we’ll be handling in this fashion.” Washington state and Colorado voters passed ballot initiatives in November making the possession and use of small amounts of marijuana by adults legal for recreational purposes for the first time ever under state law. The U.S. government still classifies cannabis as an illegal narcotic, and federal officials have said they are studying how to respond to the newly enacted marijuana legalization in Washington and Colorado. Nearly 20 states, including those two, have previously declared marijuana legal for medical purposes.

The sandwich features award-winning bacon from Slade Point Meat Specialists in Mackay, Queensland, a pan-fried duck egg, semi-dried and smoked gourmet truss tomatoes, duck foie gras, caviar, creme fraiche, shaved truffles and English cheddar, squeezed between a handmade brioche bun. It will be served with a side of chips and shaved truffle aioli. 4Fourteen head chef Carla Jones said she doesn't believe many people will try the new menu item. "It's not something I ever thought I'd be doing but it will be interesting to see how many we'll sell," she said. "I reckon some people will buy it just to see what it's like. I'm not sure I'd eat it -- I'm not that into truffles and stuff like that." Bacon Week was created to promote quality Australian pork. Chefs in Sydney are featuring items on their menu that use bacon.

suspended the department manager, who has not been named but is in her 40s, pending the outcome. Junior female work colleagues, who witnessed the alleged attack, are due to be interviewed. The matter first came to light last week when staff members reported the incident to their union, Unison. Unison branch chairman Mark Fisher, said he was shocked at the allegation. He said: "It is a very unusual situation and hence that is why we acted as a trade union.
We asked the council for a full investigation and it was the authority that made the decision to suspend the manager. "I have worked in this area for a long time and I can say that when the allegation came to us we were shocked." He said he understood the alleged attacked was not an isolated incident and had been part of on-going office horse-play which got out of control. He added: "There is an investigation under way now. If the allegation is proved it would be regarded as gross misconduct and a grounds for dismissal." A council spokesman said: "Following a complaint, we have suspended an employee as a neutral act, as is standard procedure whilst an investigation is carried out. Therefore we are unable to comment any further.
