Man used knife to kill attacking brown bear
ESELYAKH, Russia, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A Russian man attacked by a brown bear in eastern Siberia said he escaped with only minor wounds after using his knife to kill the animal.
Sergei Rumyantsev, 55, said he was riding his horse near a paddock in the Siberian forests about 35 miles from his home in Eselyakh when he was "suddenly, unexpectedly" attacked by the bear, The Independent (Britain) reported Friday. "I had a rifle in my saddle but I didn't have time to get it out. I only had a knife at hand," Rumyantsev said. He said he was able to stab the bear while his hunting dog bit the wild animal and held it back. Rumyantsev said he was scared during the attack.
"Of course. You try meeting a bear and we'll see how you do," he said to News.ykt.ru. "I was attacked by a large bear, aggressive. I would say he was about 10 years old."
Bizarre 999 calls to London Fire Brigade revealed
An elderly woman dialled 999 after throwing a glass of water at fighting dogs – forgetting it contained her false teeth. It was one of dozens of unnecessary calls made to the London Fire Brigade over the past 12 months. Another needless call concerned a phone that fell into a toilet and another from a motorist who wanted firefighters to change his tyre. The control room also received a call from a woman about a spider crawling across a pillow and from a man asking them to retrieve a shoe stuck on a garage roof. Senior Officer Dave Brown said the brigade received around 100 unnecessary 999 calls a week in the past year. ‘Our advice is simple – if it’s not an emergency, don’t ring 999,’ he said. ‘If you’re calling because you have a serious phobia, then arrange for a housemate, friend or neighbour to help you. ‘If you’re calling because there’s an unexpected animal in your home, call the RSPCA. ‘

How Ariel Castro died in kinky sex act?
CLEVELAND - Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro, found hanging in his prison cell last month, may not have committed suicide but died accidentally while performing a sex act, an Ohio state investigative report suggested on Thursday. The report by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction also said prison officials had falsified logs and failed to make scheduled checks on Castro’s cell Sept. 3, the day of his death. Castro had been serving a sentence of life plus 1,000 years for the abduction, torture and detention of three young Cleveland women. He was taken off suicide watch in June, but was supposed to have been monitored every 30 minutes by guards.
“There appears to be no known, substantiated motivation for the self-inflicted death,” the report found. The state report said Castro’s trousers and underwear were pulled around his ankles when he was found hanging from a bed sheet, although the relevance of the finding is “unclear.” Those facts were relayed to the Ohio State Highway Patrol for “consideration of the possibility of auto-erotic asphyxiation,” the report said. Auto-erotic asphyxiation is a form of sexual masochism in which oxygen flow to the brain is reduced in order to enhance the pleasure of masturbation. The two Ohio correctional officers on duty when Castro was found have been put on leave and face discipline and possible dismissal, according to the report. Ohio prisons were already under increased scrutiny at the time of Castro’s death, which came about a month after the suicide of Ohio death row inmate Billy Slagle.
Castro had pleaded guilty in August to more than 900 counts including kidnapping, rape, and murder, after three women and a 6-year-old girl he fathered escaped from his home on May 6. The kidnap victims - Amanda Berry, 27, Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32 - had been missing up to 11 years. The report said Castro left no suicide note, and was found with a Bible open to John, Chapters 2 and 3. There were also pictures of his family, arranged in a “poster-board fashion.” In documents found in his cell, Castro complains about verbal harassment from other inmates and staff, and conveys his fear that someone was tampering with his food, according to the report. Woman Stabs Boyfriend in Eye after He Refuses Group Sex
A Florida woman stabbed her boyfriend in the eye with a knife after he refused to have sex with her and another woman she had brought home from a local club, authorities said. The late September incident occurred after La Crystal King-Woolfork, 28, came home from a spot called Shake Your Booty Club with another woman at about 4 a.m. The two women had sex, and then King-Woolfork asked her boyfriend to participate, according to an Indian River Sheriff's Office arrest report. When he refused, the intoxicated King-Woolfork “became very angry and grabbed a knife,” the boyfriend told authorities.
The two struggled until the man was able to take the knife from King-Woolfork and hide it between the mattresses of the bed, according to deputies.He left the house and called for a ride to the hospital, the report said. She was arrested on an attempted murder charge on Sept. 26 after police spoke to her boyfriend. When police spoke to King-Woolfork, she said confirmed that she brought the woman home to have sex and wanted her boyfriend to join
