Soccer Mom Ran Massive Pot Grow Operation
JUNE 4--A suburban mom--and budding equestrian--has for years maintained a secret life as the alleged head of a multimillion-dollar marijuana grow operation that was
finally broken up last month when federal agents raided a New York City warehouse and discovered nearly 3000 pot plants and state-of-the-art cultivation equipment, The Smoking Gun has learned. Andrea Sanderlin, 45, was arrested two weeks ago outside a Queens building housing a “sophisticated operation to grow and process marijuana,” according to a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. During the May 20 raid, investigators seized about 2800 pot plants, “large quantities of dried marijuana,” and “lighting, irrigation and ventilation systems.”
Sanderlin was subsequently named in a criminal complaint charging her with narcotics trafficking, a felony carrying a minimum 10-year prison term. Since her arrest, Sanderlin--who allegedly ran her marijuana business through a front company called “Fantastic Enterprises, Inc.”--has been locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The DEA’s arrest of Sanderlin--an attractive, divorced mother of two girls (ages 3 and 13) who lives in tony Scarsdale, New York--will likely draw comparisons to the Showtime series “Weeds,” which starred Mary-Louise Parker as the sexy young matriarch of the hydroponic pot-distributing Botwin family.
Bad crowd-Tennis player forfeits state title after crowd heckles her
High school senior Briana Leonard walked off the court and quit the New Hampshire state girls' tennis singles final due to heckling from the crowd, and second-seeded Sunday Swett won the title by default. Leonard's parents told the Nashua Telegraph she was attacked because she lives in Massachusetts but goes to Bishop Guertin High School in New Hampshire. "This has been going on for the last two years,” said Kristen Leonard. "“This is an 18-year-old girl who fell and got hurt and people are cheering. ... Because we live in Massachusetts." Leonard was trailing 1-0 in the best-of-three set final when she left the court with her parents and went home before her second set even began. Leonard’s father was already upset over an altercation with officials regarding his family being caught in a traffic jam. Leonard was docked a point and loss of serve for being one minute late for the 3:30 start time. With a 5-4 lead, Swett was trailing love-40 before regrouping and serving herself back for the game and set.
Man jailed for sprinkling pubic hair on curry to avoid paying
A man has been jailed for sprinkling his own pubic hair over a curry in order to avoid paying for it. Lee Tyers had attempted to fool curry house staff into believing his meal had been contaminated, but CCTV footage caught him in the act. The 40-year-old was eating in Jamal’s Indian Restaurant in Middlesbrough when he complained to a waiter there was some hair in his lamb bhuna. But restaurant owner Jamal Chowdhury pointed out the fact the hair on the plate was brown and that all his staff members had black hair.
Despite this, Tyers still left without paying, and police were later able to study CCTV footage of the incident, which took place last November ‘He showed me his plate and I said “I gave you a clean plate”. He had eaten everything but then on the side of the plate there was some brown hair,’ Mr Chowdhury said. ‘It was separate and not mixed into the food. I took it under the light and showed him it was brown hair and said that all the staff in the restaurant have black hair.’Tyers was found guilty of fraud by false representation at Teesside magistrates’ court, where he was jailed for two weeks and ordered to pay £39.55 in compensation.
Naked man wanted to get engaged, got Tasered instead
A man was shot with a Taser and arrested after he apparently tried to propose to his girlfriend in the nude, but turned up at the wrong address. Thomas Edwards, 22, claimed to have knocked on the wrong door in the early hours of the weekend in Casselberry, Florida. When police were called by the homeowner involved, Edwards, now ‘completely naked’, launched into a bizarre tirade in an apparent attempt to get arrested. Telling officers his name was ‘Zim’, he asked whether head-butting police was enough to result in a prison trip When advised this was not a wise course of action he threatened to spit in the officer’s face, and despite being warned with the threat of a Taser, proceeded to do so. Edwards has since been charged with indecent exposure, battery on an officer and burglary, as well as being told not to return to the house in question. It’s not clear whether he managed to propose to his girlfriend in the end.
