Cops: Man Stole Xmas Gift He Gave Neighbors | The Smoking Gun

MARCH 17--A Minnesota man broke into a neighbor’s home to take back a set of knives he gave as a Christmas present because he believed the recipients “did not appreciate” the gift, police allege. According to cops, Alfred Joseph Guercio, 54, last Wednesday night forced his way into a neighboring residence in Burnsville, a city about 15 miles south of Minneapolis. Before bum-rushing the home, Guercio argued at the front door with a female resident “about the knife set,” according to a probable cause statement. Guercio, cops noted, was upset that the woman “did not appreciate the knife set and wanted it back. “After telling Guercio that she would retrieve the knives, the woman tried to close her door. Guercio, however, placed his foot in the door, rebuffing her several attempts to shut it. Guercio then allegedly pushed his way into the house, shoved the woman, and swiped the knife set.

The ad is no longer available online, apart from screen-shots on various news sites which show its text -- "On the eve of my 29th birthday I announce a contest named 'Leave your trace inside me'. My mother needs grandchildren to give them all the baby clothes she has been collecting. But nobody wants to marry me yet. So, if you are young, strong and healthy drop me a line."
Komleva, the one here in Ottawa, says she first discovered the mix-up accidentally. She had just posted a video to her new YouTube account discussing hair highlights when the followers and views took off like a rocket. “I thought -- wow, YouTube is great," she said. "Then I got a message saying the person would like to get me pregnant. “There were 3,000 such messages, she said, prompting Komleva to Google her name. She was shocked and a little intrigued by the results. There were dozens of stories, many using photos of her. TOP 5 weird, funny and sizzling world news of current week

A man faces a return to prison for robbing the same New Jersey shoe store - and the same clerk - that he held up 14 years earlier, authorities said. Christopher Miller, 41, pleaded guilty to robbing the shoe store in Toms River in March 2014, one day after his release from prison where he had been sent for robbing the same store in 1999, Ocean County, New Jersey prosecutors said. In the more recent robbery, a clerk who had worked at the store during the first robbery recognized Miller as the same culprit, prosecutors said.
The clerk had been notified of Miller's release on parole, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. "She looks up and there he is," Della Fave said. Police said the bandit demanded money and cell phones from employees, forced them into a back room and fled with $389 cash. Miller pleaded guilty on Monday to second-degree robbery in Ocean County Superior Court and faces the possibility of 10 to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 15, prosecutors said.

Why Topless nun billboard ahead of pope visit

TOP 5 weird, funny and sizzling world news of current week
NAPLES, Italy, March 11 (UPI) -- An Italian company said no blasphemy was intended by erecting a Naples billboard featuring a topless model dressed as a nun ahead of a planned papal visit. Clothing company Rosso di Sera came under fire from Naples natives when it erected a billboard recently featuring a topless model wearing a nun's habit and holding a rosary. The model's breasts are covered by her arms. Some have accused the company of blasphemy ahead of a planned March 21 visit to Naples by Pope Francis. The company released a statement saying the billboard had been planned long before the pope's visit was announced.
"We recognize that we have made a strong marketing choice but there was no intent to blaspheme," the statement said. "Trivializing the act of prayer was not the intention in any way." The statement said the company "strongly regrets being accused of things extremely far from our values and our culture."

Man digs 25-foot snow tunnel from house to car

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A Canadian man said it took him about 6 hours to dig a tunnel through the snow from his Prince Edward Island front door to his driveway. Marcel Landry, 26, of Summerside, said he found himself snowed into his home after a Valentine's Day weekend storm dumped 3 feet of snow on top of the already significant snow around his house, so he decided to try digging his way out using a hockey stick and a broken plastic shovel. Landry said it took him about six hours to tunnel the 25 feet to his car. He said his fiancee would periodically use the key remote to honk the car horn to he could ensure he was headed in the right direction. "I was coming in every now and then to get her to use the car keys to beep the horn and I'd go back in the tunnel to listen and see a light flashing and know in which direction to dig and then I'd probe the hockey stick to see if I was getting close as the horn got louder," he told ABC News. "Finally I found the first car, 25 feet in." Landry said it took an extra week to actually get the cars out of the driveway.

A crossing guard in Scotland has been banned from high-fiving kids and parents are livid.Nkosana Mdikane, 74, who works outside two primary schools in Dumbarton and has become known as “Scotland’s happiest lollipop man,” was asked last week by the local council to stop giving the children the greeting. In a statement, the council said, “All patrollers are instructed when crossing children over a road to remain static with one hand on their stick and the other stretched outwards. This ensures that they can be seen and effectively provides a barrier between school pupils and traffic.”David Dutton, a father of three didn’t waste time setting up a Facebook page - Save The High Fives - to get the council to reverse its decision. The page has received more than 14, 000 likes and a petition on change.org has been signed by more than 10,000 people. On the Facebook page, one person posted: “What a lovely man: it is this type of person who should be a model for our kids rather than the pernickety sumph in the council who tires (sic) to squash it.” Dufton told the Telegraph that the man affectionately known as Smiley is “out there in all weathers. It's a bit unjust. I've never heard any one ever complain about him. Nkosana always puts a smile on people's faces."
